Why Choose Therapeutic Riding?

The movement of the horse or pony stimulates the rider's vestibular system as it responds to balance signals, which sends the signals through the nervous system to the muscles for movement. This system not only controls the muscles for balance, but all voluntary movement of the body, including speech. Half way through the lesson, students who have an under-stimulated vestibular system (one form of sensory integration dysfunction) become more active vocally and in body movement.

For the past decade, the SpiritHorse Method has helped children and adults with the following conditions:

  • Autistic Spectrum Disorders
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Developmental Delays
  • Down Syndrome
  • Epilepsy
  • Spina Bifida
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • And More

At SpiritHorse of Ohio the SpiritHorse Method is utilized. The SpiritHorse method is a research based therapeutic riding program in which the riders sequentially move through the 70-step Equine-Assisted Program, progress is measured according to the mastery of these steps.
